PhD Opportunity in Semiconductor Quantum Computing
Come join QuTech and create the Quantum Future!
Job description
After a successful first hire for this research topic. We are looking for a second candidate to join the Veldhorst group as a PhD researcher. The Veldhorst group is a pioneer in quantum computing and simulation in germanium. They have demonstrated the first single-hole qubit, enabled two qubit logic in germanium, executed quantum algorithms on a four qubit quantum processor, realized baseband control of single spins, and demonstrated entanglement between remote spin qubit registers using spin shuttling.
As a PhD researcher, you will explore new opportunities in semiconductor quantum technology and work to push the boundaries of quantum control in semiconductor qubits.
The Veldhorst group is a dynamic group studying timely topics. Near term projects include: developing novel semiconductor qubits with superior performance, scaling semiconductor qubit systems, and investigating multi quantum well structures for higher dimensional quantum systems.
The Veldhorst Group is a diverse and international team, bringing together people from different backgrounds and cultures in a collaborative environment dedicated to advancing semiconductor quantum technology.
Inclusion and diversity are core values at QuTech, and Menno is a strong ambassador for both. In recognition of his efforts, he received the WIQD (We in Quantum Development) Inclusive Leader in Quantum Award 2026, which honors leaders who foster inclusive environments, support diverse talent, and promote a sense of belonging within the quantum community.
Requirements
You have a master’s degree in physics, applied physics, nanoelectronics or comparable discipline at the time of taking on the position. Prior experience in solid-state quantum computing, including but not limited to spin or superconducting qubits is appreciated but not required.
Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. For more details, please check the Graduate Schools Admission Requirements.
