Students, researchers and university teachers expect TU Delft Library’s scholarly communication and repository services to be of the highest quality. We are looking for a proactive Software Developer who takes the initiative, is strong in analysing and questioning sources, and enjoys working within a dynamic team dedicated to improving our services for research.
 
The Research Infrastructure Team within the TU Delft Library supports the university by building the Institutional Repository (https://repository.tudelft.nl/), and managing the university’s research information and metadata. The repository is the gateway to the university’s output of research articles, textbooks, theses and other research scientific publications. Your expertise is needed in developing the front-end interface for the repository. Embracing recommendations such as those from the COAR Next Generation Repositories report, you will enhance its usability and technical capabilities, and boost user engagement. 
 
Contributing to the code-based development work, you will play a key role in the success of this repository. You are able to understand and manage dataflow without using any libraries or/and frameworks. You thrive on writing great code and have an intimate knowledge of Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, JSON and XML, GIT. Knowledge of SPARQL is a plus.   

 

Working with the Senior Technical Developer, the UX Designer & Researcher, the Research Information Manager, and the Research Infrastructure Coordinator, you’ll integrate new functionalities based on requirements gathered from users and library staff. You will also help maintain and improve the technical aspects of the repository, keeping applications and servers up-to-date and secure. In addition, you work with other teams in the university - the Metadata team and Research Analytics team in the library, and various ICT personnel - learning from their input and specific needs for the repository. 
 

Job requirements

Development: 

  • Good working knowledge and experience with both fronted and backend development (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS/TailwindCSS). 
  • Have experience/affinity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.   
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to solve technical challenges and smoothly switch/experiment with new technologies without being tied to any specific framework. 
  • You have experience of the entire Software Development Life Cycle (start-to-end development flow: plan, coding, testing, deploying, implementing new features and doing day-to-day operations for a web development).  
  • You hold an MSc.  
  • You have experience of working in teams of developers. Your communication skills, enthusiasm and creativity help you motivate your team members to achieve the best possible results. 
  • You have a good command of English and if you’re not yet proficient in Dutch, you are willing to learn the language (reaching at least listening skills A2) 

 

Nice to have or willing to learn: 

  • Web development awareness 
  • Experience working with community-driven open-source projects 
  • Awareness of the importance of Free and Open-Source software 
  • Knowledge (or willing to learn) of database systems and servers, data models and data base design. RDB - Relational databases with SQL variations and, RDF – Resource Description Framework with SPARQL 
  • Knowledge of Linux operating system, and Bash script 
  • Knowledge of the IIIF standard for delivering digital images 
  • Familiarity with Figma

Conditions of employment 

  • Duration of contract is End of 2026. Temporary
  • A job of 32-40 hours per week. 
  • A salary based on Schaal 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a salary between €4537 - €6209 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.  
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
